WHAT IS THE OUTREACH PROGRAM?
For hundreds of families in the Portland/Metro area, the expense of gymnastics classes is too much. Recognizing the need for low-cost gymnastics classes in several communities in the area, OGA launched our Community Outreach Program in 2009.
Over the years, OGA has served children at 6 schools in the Portland, Beaverton, and Hillsboro school districts, and impacted nearly 400 children in a positive way. The goal of the Outreach Program is to provide a free after-school alternative for low income families, enrich the lives of at-risk youth through gymnastics, and offer a positive physical education experience to children in local Title 1 schools.
We have seen the impact our Outreach Program has in the lives of our students – from improved behavior, to gross motor skill development, to a more positive outlook on self, school, and family – and we know our classes are important. Since 2012, OGA has partnered with Impact NW’s SHINE program to offer classes in the Beaverton School District. This partnership allows us to offer classes to those children who most need them, and who will gain the most from their gymnastic class experience.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
While OGA is proud of how our program has grown and expanded, but we still have more to do. To keep our program thriving and growing, we need the continued help of our members and community supporters. With your help, as well help from our corporate sponsors, OGA can reach hundreds of children in our community. Click here to find out how you can contribute!
