Boys Team Minutes - 10/11/11

OGA Boy’s Booster Club Meeting, Tuesday, October 11, 2011

OGA Boys Team Parents,

Thank you for helping to make our distribution of uniforms go so smoothly the other night.  I would like to thank the Group Managers as well for helping to separate uniforms, along with their distribution of the uniforms to make the process go so quickly and efficiently.  I hope everyone was able to meet their group manager and can now put a face and name to the emails they will begin receiving.  The boys team as a whole is large and we will be working to keep everyone informed as quickly as possible of any changes, upcoming events, or important messages that need to get out to all of you.  I would especially like to thank Bobbi, Lori and Tanya for taking on the Volunteer Positions.  These positions will help our athletes become closer as a team and will also help our parents to work together to make our goals become realities.  I look forward to being a part of this group and the successes of our 2011-2012 Season.

Sincerely,

Jason Cyr

For anyone who didn't make it to the meeting, here's a quick re-cap:

  • Coaches reported that Futurestars was a great success. 8-9 year olds did wonderfully, and we have 4 older boys qualified to go on to Nationals in Colorado.

  • Coaches will let us know soon about which days in November there won't be practice for holidays, etc.

  • If you have any issues with the meet schedule, please contact Brad ASAP — he's already sent out the Washington Open rosters. Only 2 parents have contacted him thus far.

  • A few Volunteer Positions were open & filled at the meeting:

    • Uniforms: Bobbie Duncan (from level 4)

    • Team Activities: Tanya Webb

    • Fundraisers: Lori White

  • Grip Bags had to be special ordered from China and they're still on the way. The cost for the bags should be less than we paid--any money owed back will be credited toward our meet fees. Jenny Davis will send an email soon asking to check on name spellings before the bags are embroidered.

  • New bags look a little different than the old bags —not a big deal.

  • Booster Club will now hold fewer meetings and rely primarily on email communication through group managers.

Boys Team Minutes - 4/19/11

OGA Boys Booster Club Meeting, Tuesday, April 19, 2011

Please be sure to update the book with your volunteer hours.

Our next Booster Club Meeting will be postponed one week to May 17th due to Nationals.

Scholarship money was dispersed to each of the boys that qualified for Nationals. The Booster Club had voted a few years ago to provide up to $1000 toward each boy’s expenses for Nationals, which can be costly.

End of Season Party--the coaches have requested that we hold the End of Season Party at Oaks Park as they have in the past. Oaks Park offers a great deal for events and ends up costing less than our other options. More details to come.
***Mark your calendars now: the End of Season (and End of Summer) Party will be August 20th!

Treasurer’s Report (see attachment)
Our goal is to keep a minimum of $5000 in the account at all times. We are currently at $5500. We had a large number of medals left over after hosting Regionals last year that we were able to sell to ICF for this year’s Regionals. Aforementioned scholarships are accounted for. Travel for coaches will allow Nick & Walker to attend Nationals; though they don’t have boys competing there, it is good experience for them as coaches.

Coaches Update
OGA did great at Regionals. We had 2 level 5 champions: Josh Longacre & Anthony Xanthos; 3 level 6 champions: Keegan Auld, Brian McKiernan, & Austin Cyr; and from level 9, Josh Havelind--all of our level 9s qualified for Nationals!

Conferences: (look for sign-ups on the bulletin board soon)
Levels 6 & 7 May 2nd, 3rd & 4th
Levels 4 & 5 May 9th-13th
Optionals      May 19th & 20th
*Levels 4-7, coferences will be limited to 20 min, Optionals conferences will be 30 min.

Saturday, May 21st 10-1pm will be Team Try-Outs. (This is only for new boys joining the team--NOT existing team members, that’s what conferences are for.)

On June 20th, we move to summer schedules. Groups 1 & 2 will be 8:30am-12:30pm. Group 3, we won’t know until girls’ team schedule is set. Group 4 stays at the same time.

Board Update
Ted Vacek filled us in: OGA operated at a loss last year (purposely, due to the expansion) but this year’s goal is to be profitable. They are watching budgets closely as well as Bingo. They are exploring the Booster Club relationships to the gym. Elections are coming up--there are 3 vacant seats--the deadline to apply for those positions unfortunately passed on April 18th, but if you are still interested, contact Lisa Havelind as there may still be a need. If there is a vote (contingent on number of applicants to positions), you will be able to pick up a ballot at the front desk. For those interested in serving on the board, board meetings are every other month. The finance committee meets every month. The time commitment is just a couple hours a month.
***The big Annual Meeting is coming up May 18th. It’s catered and there are door prizes--don’t miss it!
