All of us at OGA are dedicated to developing the character of our students as well as their gymnastics skills. That's why OGA works with the Character Counts Coalition to incorporate the "6 Pillars of Character" into our curriculum. As part of our dedication to Character Counts, each October we hold our "Character Counts Month Celebration." All OGA gymnasts are encouraged to take part in this fun, month-long exploration of character.
To participate, gymnasts need to choose and complete a community service project during the month of October. Following completion of their project, each participant should create a presentation detailing their experience, why they chose that particular project, what they learned, and anything else they would like people to know about their project. Past projects include coat drives for the homeless, volunteering at animal shelters, creating care packages for deployed service members, working with local youth aide organizations, and park or neighborhood clean-up efforts. Presentation displays can be anything from poster boards, to written essays, to photo albums.
Presentations are due to the front desk by November 4th, and all presentations will be displayed in the front lobby. In early November, OGA's Management team will evaluate presentations based on community impact and incorporation of the 6 pillars of character. On November 10th, all participants will be recognized for their hard work and service to the community, and the winner will be announced. The project winner will receive one year free tuition!
Please contact Mary Maas with questions, and thank you for helping us promote character in our athletes and better our community.
